Annual Pirith Chanting Ceremony at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara in Birmingham was held on 18th June 2016  under the guidance of  Chief Sangha Nayake for Great Britain  chief incumbent for both Jethavana Buddhist Vihara in Birmingham and Sri Sambudddha Vihara in Liverpool most Venerable Keppityagoda Gunawansa Thero. 

The Pirith Chanting is held every year in order to mark arrival of Buddhism to Sri Lanka from India which took place on Poson Full moon day around third century BCE during the reign of King Devanapiyathissa. This dawn of Dhamma helped Sri Lankan to gain new civilization based on Buddhist Values and enriched our culture, language and many aspects of our life. This year’s chanting ceremony was sponsored by the devotees of the temple. The ceremony was started with evening Gilanpasa Buddhapuja conducted by Tissapura Sugatharathana Thero.

Many senior monks came for the ceremony both monks based in UK and from abroad among them were Aggamaha Panditha, Chief Sangha Nayake for Great Britain, chief Incumbent of London  Kingsbury Saddathissa International Buddhist center, most venerable  Galayaye Piyadassi Nayaka Thero with Ven Nepal Sumana Thero, Chief Sangha Nayaka of Western  Province for Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya, chief Incumbent and Registrar of Sri lanka Vidyalaya Maha Pirivena Colombo Dr. Nagoda Amarawansa Nayaka  venerable Thawalama  Bandula Thero and Konwawe Ariyarathana thero from London Buddhist Vihara, venerable Theldeniyaye Amitha  Thero and Mahiyangane Wimalshantha  thero from Nottingham Shanti  Buddhist Vihara, Venerable Mathugama Palitha Thero from Glassgow Buddhist vihara, Venerable. Galpoththayaye Pemananda Thero and Ven. Udunuwara Indarathana Thero from  Kethumathi temple in Manchester Venerable Wanduramba kassapa thero from London Heathrow Athuladassana international Buddhist center, Venerable  Meewallawe Pannatissa   Thero, Chief incumbent of Sri Vijitharama Vihara in Welivita  Kaduwela. Venerable  Kannimahara Piyasiri Thero  from Munich Buddhist Center in Germany. Venerable Kirama Gunawansa Thero from Embilipitiya new town Bodimalu temple, Venerable Thissapura Sugatharathana Thero resident monk from Liverpool Sri Sambuddha Viharaya,Venerable  Dodangoda SumedhaThero and from leister Buddhist Vihara Venerable Mapalagama Soratha thero and Venerable Beragama Piyarathana Thero Many devotees have come to receive the blessings.
