The Sri Lanka Ex Service Persons Association in the UK  held its 7th AGM

Press Release

The Sri Lanka Ex Service Persons Association in the UK (SLESPA-UK) was formed on 17th September 2009, as a social organisation, for the purpose of fostering camaraderie and esprit de Corps amongst all Sri Lankan Ex-Service Persons, and their families domiciled in the United Kingdom, while providing assistance to identified charitable projects in Sri Lanka. SLESPA-UK functions as a non-political, non-profit-making voluntary organisation for the welfare of its members within the larger community. SLESPA-UK is an affiliated member of Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen Association (SLESA), and also maintains communication with other ex-services organisations in the UK, and worldwide.

SLESPA-UK,  held its 7th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday 5th June 2016 at Rising Sun Hotel,  Sudbury Hill, London with the participation of nearly 30 members. The event started observing 2 minutes silence as a mark of respect, in memory of the fallen comrades from all the services.

SLESPA-UK has been growing from strength to strength during the last 7 years. Some of the notable events held during 2015/16 were, the annual events ‘Summer Family Get Together and Sports Day’ at Blake Hall Sports club, surrounded by picturesque Wanstead Golf course and scenic Epping forest woodlands and 'Target  Shooting Day' for the members and their families at the historic birth place of Paralympics games, Stoke Mandeville Olympic Stadium. 'An afternoon with Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera (retd) a sea/land warrior, turned community worker and a politician' created SLESPA-UK members a memorable opportunity to share Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera (retd)'s experiences being a serviceman, community worker, a poet and a member of parliament. The year ended successfully launching the  inaugural  'Sri Lanka Schools Target Shooting Competitions' with 6 participating Old Boy's Associations including St. Peters, St. Josephs, Ananda, Nalanda, Royal, Richmond, and nearly 20 individual competitors from many other schools in Sri Lanka.

SLESPA has supported Sri Lanka ExServicemen's Veterans Home at Bolagala, Katana and Triest Children's Orphanage in Ramanathapuram, Kilinochchi in previous years. During 2015/2016, SLESPA-UK handed over a donation to a very deserving disabled soldier for his toilet/bath room modifications to suit his special needs and donated shooting equipment to Sri Lanka School Shooting Association.
