The annual Athula Dhassan Dhamma School prize giving ceremony took place on the 15th December 2018 recognising, celebrating and rewarding the achievements of our Dhamma School students. This special event was organised by the Dhamma School Development committee under the patronage of Ven Wanduramba Kassapa, Chief Sanganayake of Amarapura Sri Saddhamma Wansa Niyaka of Great Britain, the Head of the Athula Dassana International Buddhist Vihara and the Dhamma School.

Family and friends were present at the successful event to show support and to witness the end of year successes.

We were extremely pleased that Ven UK Kashyapa Thero accepted our invitation to attend the event. Mayor of London Borough of Hounslow; Councillor Samia Chaudhary marked her presence as the Chief Guest of the event. The Event was also attended by a number of other dignitaries including the Mr Christy Ruban, Counsellor, Administration and Consular of the Sri Lankan High Commission represented Mrs Manisha Gunasekera, Mr Sam Goonetillake – Director, Helplanka Charity, Dr Nishanie Bajramovic - Managing Director Estetica Dental Clinic.

In his welcome speech, Ven Kassapa Thero said; “The awards highlight the excellent work that all staff and students put into their work, and it is great to see this is rewarded” Ven Kassapa Thero also commended our Dhamma School Children for their participation at various events organised by our Vihara including the Independence Day celebration and New Year Festival. He thanked the Dhamma school development committee for organising this wonderful event. He also thanked the Dhamma parents and other devotees of our Vihara who provided much needed sponsorships that enabled us to organise this event.

Prior to the prize giving event, the children of the Dhamma School showcased a selection of outstanding art and craft work, produced by children from Beginners Class, level 1, level 2, level 4, level 5, level 6 and level 7. The children assisted in the planning and displaying of their work, unveiling the exhibition to parents, staff and to the special guests.

For the first time in our Dhamma School history twenty of our Dhamma School children sat for the 2018 YMBA Examination. We were extremely proud that they all passed the examination and over half of the children obtained Distinctions. Children received their YMBA Certificates from the Head of our Dhamma School, Ven Wanduramba Kassapa Thero.

In 2011 Ven Wanduramba Kassapa Thero started our Dhamma School with just 8 children and today we have over 85 children attending classes every Saturday.
