Katina Celebration at Sri Sambuddha Viharaya in Liverpool, 2018
Annual Katina ceremony of Liverpool Sri Sambuddha viharaya was held with the participation of Most Venerable. Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Nayaka Thero and other monks from various temples in United Kingdom along with a huge gathering of devotees on Sunday the 04th November 2018 at Prescott Town Hall with the main sponsorship of Mr. Prasanna Thrikawala, Mrs. Nishanthi Thrikawala and their family.
The ceremony was gracefully organized under the guidance of Most Ven. Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Nayaka Thero, The head monk of both Jethavana Buddhist Vihara in Birmingham and Sri Sambuddha Viharaya in Liverpool and also the chief Sanganayaka for Ramanna Maha Nikaya in Great Britain. Venerable monks were present from Sri Lanka and various temples in United Kingdom at the ceremony. Venerable other monks who participated at the ceremony were Ven. Kahawanugoda Wimaladhamma Thero,Ven. Mapalagama Soratha Thero, Ven. Unapana Soratha Thero, Ven. Udunuwara Indarathana Thero and Ven. Bogammara Maithrirathana Thero from Jethavana Buddhist Vihara in Birmingham, Ven. Theldeniyaye Amitha Thero, The head monk of Nottingham Shanthi Buddhist Vihara, with Ven. Anamaduwe Wimalajiwa Thero and Ven. Nepale Suwachaseela Thero From Nottingham Shanthi Buddhist Vihara, Ven. Madugalle Mahanama Thero, The head monk of Sambodhi Vihara in London, Ven. Pelwatte Dhammananda Thero, The head monk of Bristol Buddhist Vihara with Monaragala Sumedha Thero and Ven. Dewalegama Pannananda Thero and resident monks of Liverpool Sri Sambuddha Viharaya, Ven. Meewellawe Pannathissa Thero and Ven. Thissapura Sugatharathana Thero.
The ceremony was started with administering of five precepts by Pelwatte Dhammananda Thero and Buddha puja was conducted by Ven. Theldeniyaye Amitha Thero . Offering of Dana was conducted by Ven. Kahawanugoda Wimaladhamma Thero. After Dana, devotees were served with a refreshment before starting Katina procession. The Katina procession reminded all participants the beauty and the atmosphere of a typical Katina ceremony in a Buddhist village. The offering of Katina robe to Maha sangha was conducted by chief incumbent Ven. Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Nayaka Thero. Thereafter, Two dhamma sermons were delivered in English by Ven. Udunuwara Indarathana Thero and in Sinhala by Ven. Madugalle Mahanama Thero explaining the importance of offering a Katina robe. Vote of thanks was made by Mr. Indika Yahahuoda and then devotees were served with Lunch Dana. All devotees and well wishers also joined together in sponsoring the Katina ceremony.
