Sampath Bank Partners with Festival of Cricket 2018
Sampath Bank partnered with the Festival of Cricket 2018, the 30th edition of the annual cricketing encounter of Sri Lankan Old Boys’ Associations (OBAs) in the United Kingdom. The Bank was the official Banking Partner for the event which was held at the Hainault Recreation Ground in Essex on 8th July.
This is yet another means by which Sampath Bank seeks to engage with and add value to Sri Lankans around the world, while promoting closer ties within these communities. The Bank has always been cognizant of the efforts of our countrymen living abroad and strived to help them secure greater returns for their hard earned money while giving them more ways to support their families and the homeland as well.

Mr. Nanda Fernando, Managing Director (MD), Sampath Bank PLC presented special tokens of appreciation to His Excellency Sugeeshwara Gunaratna, Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom and Mr. Siano Perera, President, Festival of Cricket. The Bank conducted a raffle draw for everyone present at the venue and gave away valuable gifts to the winners right there.
Sampath Bank also hosted an exclusive Investor Forum for preeminent members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community working and living in the UK at the Grange St. Paul’s Hotel, London, alongside this event. Mr. Nanda Fernando welcomed and engaged with the distinguished invitees at this glamorous forum together with other senior officials from the Bank and Ex Sampath Bankers.
Sampath Bank has a long standing relationship with the game of cricket and has always been a fervent supporter of the nation’s favorite sport. The Bank has had the privilege of employing several members of Sri Lanka’s cricketing fraternity since its inception. Ace spinner Rangana Herath and left-arm bowler Don Anurasiri who are both currently employed at Sampath Bank and dynamic right-hand batsman Maravan Attapattu who used to work there are some of the more eminent Sri Lankan cricket stars amongst them.
Sri Lankan musical sensations by Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman (BnS) made a special live performance at the venue. They were presented with special tokens of appreciation from the Bank by Mr. Nanda Fernando. Children got a chance to showcase their skills at a talent show which was conducted by Dilini Seneviratne. The top performers received their prizes from His Excellency Sugeeshwara Gunaratna, Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman.
Several other attractions including performances by live bands, children’s play area, food stalls with authentic Sri Lankan dishes as well as cuisines from around the world, a Sri Lankan Bazaar and more kept the audiences entertained and occupied through the day, giving them the feeling of being back in our homeland.
The Festival of Cricket 2018 was organized by the Festival of Cricket committee comprising of members of the Sri Lankan OBAs in the UK and is billed as the biggest Sri Lankan carnival in the country. It seeks to promote peace, harmony and togetherness among all Sri Lankans in the country, the OBAs in the particular, through cricket.
