memorial service organised by the Thames Meditation Society to commemorate the life of Dr. Dinil Wickramasooriya
On Sunday the 1st of April 2018 starting at 6.30 PM, the Thames Buddhist Vihara conducted a memorial service organised by the Thames Meditation Society to commemorate the life of Dr. Dinil Wickramasooriya who passed away on 28th of March 2018. Dr. Wickramasooriya was the founder of the Thames Buddhist Vihara and the first president of the Thames Meditation Society , established in 1982. A large number of devotees including children of the Dhamma School participated in a Buddha Pooja conducted by the Acting Head of the Vihara Most Venerable Panditha Kohukumbure Siridhamma Thero and the other resident monk Most Venerable Dombawala Amitha Thero. The Buddha pooja commenced with observing Pansil and offering candles, incense, flowers and 'gilanpasa’ to the Lord Buddha. This was followed by a 'MATHAKA WASTHRA POOJA' and the ceremony of pouring of water into a bowl from a jug until it overflows known as ‘PAN WEDEEMA'
The next item was a sermon in relation to the death of a person and the last thoughts that come to mind at the time of death. The sermon was delivered by Ven. Amitha Thero and he passed merit to Dr. Wickramasooriya and wished him 'MAY HE ATTAIN NIBBANA’. Ven. Siridhamma Thero conveyed the message of condolence sent by Most Venerable Pahalagama Somaratana Nayaka Thero Chief Sanganayake of Great Britain from Sri Lanka President of the Thames Meditation Society Dr. Herath Kularatne addressed the audience and gave a detailed account of the unforgettable services Dr. Dinil Wickramasooriya and his beloved family members, namely Mrs. Prabha Wickramasooriya and their children, offered in dedication towards the Thames Buddhist Vihara and expressed deepest sympathies on behalf of the Vihara and the congregation . Finally, as the service ended everyone who was present wished him ‘MAY HE ATTAIN NIBBANA'.
