Annual Kathina Pinkama at London Buddhist Vihara
This years Kathina Pinkama of London Buddhist Vihara was held on Sunday the 29th October. The ceremony was organised with the able guidance of the Head of the Vihara and the Chief Sangha Nayaka of Great Britain Most Ven. Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thero.
M.B.Rathnayaka, Dan Bandara, Padmini Abeysekera, Sumana Abeysingha, Sheela Heenbanda, Daya Wijewardena, Lackshante Goonawardena, Chandra Gunasingha, Anoma Wattaladeniya, Rosy Kudaligama, Shantha and Kingsley Fernando, Lalitha and Lakshman Peiris, Ashoka Swarnakanthi, Maya Yapa including their families and friends were the sponsors of this years Kathina programme. At the invitation of the sponsors Ven. Seelawimala Nayaka Thero, Ven. Thawalama Bandula Thero, Ven. Konwewe Ariyarathana Thero and Ven. Kalugamuwe Kassapa Thero observed "Vassa", Rainy Retreat, at the vihara. During the three months of the retreat the sponsors attended to all the needs of the monks and organised additional religious programmes including Dharma sermons and discussions.
The 'Katina Robe' which was stitched and prepared by the sponsors and the other devotees during the day was taken in procession to the shrine room where the ceremony was held. Ven. Kalugamuwe Kassapa Thero welcomed the Maha Sangha,The High Commissioner for Sri Lanka H.E. Amari Wejewardhane, Kathina programme sponsors, Vihara management committees and the large number of devotees from various communities. Ven. Seelawimala Nayaka Thero in his Anusasana gave a brief introduction on the importance of the Kathina ceremony.
Administration of 'PanSil' was conducted by Ven. Dahampahala Seelananda Nayaka Thero. Ven. Thawalama Bandula Thero,Ven. Mahabrithanyaye Kassapa Thero and Ven. Konwewe Ariyarathana Thero delivered sermons in English and Sinhala languages.
Head of Letchworth Buddhist Vihara, Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Nayaka Thero, Head of the Rathnapura Dharmashala Pirivena,former trustee of Sri Pada and Chief Sanghanayaka of Sabaragamuwa province Ven. Dahampahala Seelaananda Nayaka Thero, Head of Redbridge Buddhist Vihara Ven. Pethigamuwe Hemarathana Nayaka Thero, Head of East London Buddhist Vihara Ven. Makure Mangala Nayaka Thero, Head of Cambridge Buddhist Vihara Ven. mathugama Palitha Thero, Head of Samadhi Meditation Centre edmonton Ven. Gunnepane Sumanarama Thero, Ven. Maha Brithaanyaye Kassapa Thero, Ven. Kohukumbure Siridhamma Thero of Thames Buddhsit Vihara and the residence monks of the London Buddhist Vihara took part in the ceremony. Ven. Seelawimala Nayaka Thero transferring merit acquired in taking part in the 'Katina' Ceremony, paid "Punyanumodana" to the Maha Sangha, the sponsors, their families and friends, the High Commissioner and the large number of devotees attended, Vihara management committee, Dharmapala Trust and every one who helped in various ways to make this years Kathina Pinkama a great success.
