Kathina Celebrations at Jethavana Buddhist Vihara, Birmingham 2017

Annual Kathina robe offering for the monks at Jathavana Buddhist Vihara in Birmingham was held with the participation of chief prelate of SriLanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya and other monks from several temples in U.K and SriLanka along with a huge gathering of devotees on 29th Sunday, October 2017. The ceremony had been gracefully organised under the guidance of the Most Venerable Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Nayaka Thera, the head both of Jethavana Vihara in Birmingham and Sri Sambuddha Vihara in Liverpool and the Chief Sanganayaka for Great Britain. Ven. Keppitiyagoda Gunawansa Thera and Ven. Mapalagama Soratha Thera had observed the rains retreat at the Vihara this year.​

The event started with the offering of Buddha Puja at 11.15am. There were Venerable monks present from various temples in Sri Lanka and United Kingdom at the ceremony including The Chief prelate of SriLanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya, most Venerable, Napana Pemasiri Maha Nayaka Thero, Ven. Pidiville Piyatissa Thero,the head monk of kethumati Vihara,Manchester, Ven. Galpotyaye Pemananda Thero and Ven. Kalutara Miththa Thero from Manchester vihara, Ven. Manampita Amitha Thero from SiLanka, Ven. Hureekaduwe Pannasekara Thero and Ven, Walala Pemalankara Thero from Vidyasagara piriwena, Manikhinna, Kandy, SriLanaka, Ven. Lewke Wajira Thero from Leceister Buddhist temple, Venerable Theldeniyaye Amitha thera head Monk of Nottingham Shanti Buddhist Vihara , Ven. Kaluaggala Saranasiri Thero and Ven. Henanigala Siripalankara from Leeds Buddhist Vihara, Ven.Thissapura Sugatharathana Thero from Sri Sambuddha viharaya, Liverpool. Ven. Kuruduwatte Pannasiri Thero from Bristol Temple, Ven. Meewallawe Pannathissa Thero, Ven. Godamune Chulanaga Thero and Ven. Mapalagama Wajira from Jethavana Buddhist Vihara ​

The Kathina Robe was offered to the monks by the devotees with deep devotion and perehara reminding all participants the beauty and the religious atmosphere of a typical Kathina ceremony in a Sri Lankan Village.​

Atapirikara and requisites for the monks and food were offered by devotees of Jethavana Buddhist Vihara. This year’s Kathina ceremony was sponsored by Mr. Dimantha Weerarathna, Mr. Shantha Perera, Dr. Panagamuwa, Mr. Saman Palitha, Mr. Sanath athapaththu, Mr. Padmasiri Jayalath, Mr. Wimal, Mr. Suranga Disanayake and their families.​
