New Year Celebrations 2017 ,Ketumati Buddhist Vihara, Manchester

A memorable Sri Lankan New Year Celebrations was held on Sunday 23rd April 2017 at the Hazel Grove High School, Jacksons Lane, Hazel Grove, Stockport, SK7 5JX . Approximately 300 Sri Lankan families from all over the North West of England and other neighbouring areas such as Stoke-On-Trent, Leeds, Liverpool and Sheffield witnessed this colourful event.

The proceedings started with religious observances and lighting of the traditional oil lamp, while the Jayamangalagatha was being recited by the children of Ketumati Dhamma School In the morning, after the midday meal, the actual New Year celebrations began. The audience were entertained with traditional songs, music and drama performed by the adults and children.

Traditional Sri Lankan games were held in glorious sunny afternoon. Both adult and children participated in Kana Mutti, sack race, tug of war, lime n spoon and musical chairs etc. Afterwards, the traditional Sri Lankan food milk rice, Kevum, Kokis etc was served and enjoyed by all.
